Maintenance Advice
The annual solar maintenance checklist every owner should follow
11 June 2026 · 4 min read
Solar is low maintenance, not no maintenance. A yearly check protects generation, safety and your warranty.
Check generation against expectation
The earliest sign of a fault is a quiet drop in output. Compare this year's monthly generation to last year's. A single underperforming string usually points to a faulty optimiser, a shading change or a failing panel.
Inspect the array and fixings
Clamps loosen, mounting feet move and cable clips perish in UV. An annual visual inspection catches all three before they become a roof leak or a trailing DC cable.
- Check for cracked or delaminated panels
- Look for bird nesting under the array, a very common UK issue
- Confirm cable management is still clipped clear of tiles
Test the electrical side
Inverter fault logs, isolator operation, earth continuity and insulation resistance should all be checked periodically. Keep the paperwork: it supports warranty claims and matters when you come to sell the property.
