Six details that separate a good install from a poor one
14 March 2026 · 5 min read
Most solar problems we're called out to fix were designed in on day one. These are the details worth insisting on.
The details that matter
A system is only as good as the workmanship behind it. Twenty years of remedial work has taught us where corners get cut.
- Array set back correctly from roof edges for wind loading
- Every roof hook landed on a rafter, not a batten
- DC cabling clipped and protected, never resting on tiles
- Optimisers or micro-inverters where shading genuinely justifies them
- Isolators sited for safe, accessible maintenance
- Full commissioning data and handover pack, not just a certificate
Ask for the design, not just the price
A proper quote shows the panel layout, the predicted annual yield with its assumptions, and the string design. If a company can't show you that before you sign, they haven't designed the system yet.
