Why bird proofing protects your solar investment
9 April 2026 · 4 min read
Pigeons nesting under panels cause blocked gutters, damaged cables and lost generation. Proofing is cheap; the damage isn't.
The gap under the panels
The air gap that keeps panels cool also makes a warm, sheltered nesting space. Once pigeons move in, debris builds up, gutters block and droppings corrode fixings and cabling.
Doing it properly
Effective proofing means clearing and cleaning the roof first, then fitting a UV-stable mesh clipped to the panel frames, never screwed through them, and never fixed into the roof covering.
- Full clean and nest removal before proofing
- Stainless clips, no penetrations to panel or roof
- Mesh rated for UK weather and UV exposure
